…. British/Kenyan artist Arlene Wandera works with multiple mediums, including sculpture, installation, performance and image making. Many of her works are made using common, discarded and forgotten materials like fabric off-cuts, broken furniture and empty food tins. Her work is driven by her experiences, exploring her childhood memories, complex social -historical interactions and notions of [cultural/racial] identity.
The conflict and relationship between Wandera’s heritage and current life also inform much of the production process, resulting in works that explore the dualities inherent in life, while at the same time inviting or unsettling the viewer with their subtle and poignant narratives.
